Lamar Jackson and Ravens red zone efficiency concerns

The Baltimore Ravens saw their season red zone conversion rate plummet from 58.33% to 16.67% following a single touchdown performance against the Tennessee Titans. Lamar Jackson faces pressure to improve scoring efficiency despite Derrick Henry's heavy rushing workload.

Lamar Jackson and Ravens red zone efficiency concerns

The Baltimore Ravens converted only one of six red zone opportunities into a touchdown during their 24-16 win against the Tennessee Titans. This poor performance dropped their season red zone conversion rate from 58.33% to 16.67%. I see the Ravens’ red zone inefficiency as a major concern. Lamar Jackson expressed frustration regarding the offense’s inability to finish drives, noting that while they move the ball down the field effectively, they must find a way to score touchdowns rather than relying on kicker Justin Tucker. You know how much it hurts to see a productive drive end in a field goal attempt. The offense drives the ball down the field no problem, but they fail to finish in the end zone. Jackson believes the team must find a way to punch it in to assist a defense that does a great job of protecting them. The Ravens held a commanding 18-3 halftime lead before the Titans clawed back into the game, and before this matchup, the Ravens ranked ninth in the league for red zone conversion. The offensive unit must fix these issues to remain competitive against a 5-1 Detroit Lions team. The Titans’ red zone offense remains a run-heavy unit, as they ran the ball seven more times inside the opponent’s 20 yard line than they have passed. Will the Ravens find more consistency in the end zone before they face the Lions?

Henry’s Presence and Jackson’s Output

Derrick Henry provides significant scoring potential, but his presence has not mitigated the red zone struggles. Against the Philadelphia Eagles, Henry recorded 19 carries for 82 yards. In a different matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, he finished with eight carries for 42 yards and two receptions for 16 yards. Henry is a relentless snowplow who regularly needs multiple coordinated men to bring him down. At 30 years old, he is tied with Jim Brown in rushing touchdowns with 106. His heavy workload follows a 2024 season where he produced 2,114 combined yards and 18 rushing touchdowns with a 5.9 yards per carry average. This production replaces the 13 scores provided by Gus Edwards last year. Jackson currently maintains a 6.3% red zone touchdown percentage for the 2026 season through four games, having recorded six touchdowns against one interception, which produced a 119.6 passer rating. He averages 241.8 passing yards per game this season. The offense produces 426.7 yards per game, but the lack of efficiency inside the 20-yard line remains a problem. Jackson needs to score more points early to avoid the types of losses seen against the Jaguars.

Two-Point Conversion Efficiency

The Ravens recorded zero successful two-point conversions during the 2025 season. This lack of scoring variety contrasts with teams like the Chicago Bears, who converted three two-point attempts from 1,079 plays. The following table shows successful two-point conversions for other teams during the 2025 to 2026 period:

Team 2-Point Conversions
Chicago Bears 3
Dallas Cowboys 4
Detroit Lions 1
Philadelphia Eagles 1
New York Jets 6

The Ravens recorded zero successful two-point conversions, while the New York Jets recorded six successful attempts. Jackson has 96 receiving yards for the season. The offense must improve its ability to convert field position into points to sustain its championship expectations. The team produces 426.7 yards per game, but the failure to finish in the red zone is a glaring issue. Jackson had 457 pass attempts last year and finished with 3,678 passing yards. The offense must overcome these red zone failures to win the AFC North. The Ravens are currently 4-3 and sit in fourth place in the AFC North, trailing the 9-3 Pittsburgh Steelers and 5-2 Cleveland Browns.
