León dictates scoring pace in Perugia

Wilfredo León leads the scoring for Sir Susa Scai Perugia as Kamil Semeniuk transitions to the opposite-hitter role. The 2026-2027 SuperLega season also introduces new foreign-player quotas and a limit of eight substitutions per set for all twelve competing teams.

León dictates scoring pace in Perugia

Wilfredo Leon dictates the scoring pace for Sir Susa Scai Perugia as the 2026-2027 season begins. The 2.01 m tall outside hitter uses his 385 cm spike to maintain his status as a premier attacker. Perugia seeks to defend its Italian championship, European title, and Club World Championship titles. The roster includes setter Simone Giannelli, outside hitter Oleh Plotnytskyi, and middle blockers Agustin Loser and Sebastian Sole. New additions Ferre Reggers and Mathis Henno provide extra firepower for the defending champions. The team relies on this depth to sustain its dominance in the SuperLega. Other elite teams prepare for the campaign, including Cucine Lube Civitanova with Aleksandar Nikolov, Simeon Nikolov, and Eric Loeppkey, and Rana Verona with Anders Mol, Paul Buchegger, and Micah Christenson. The league also contains high-level competition from Itas Trentino Trento with Riccardo Sbertoli, Alessandro Michieletto, and Flavio Gualberto. Valsa Group Modena uses the skills of Luca Porro and French setter Amir Tizi-Oualou, while Allianz Milano relies on Robertlandy Simon and Santiago Orduna. Additionally, Vero Volley Monza has Thomas Beretta and Iliya Petkov, and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza maintains its core with setter Paolo Porro and outside hitter Jose Gutierrez. The competitive field also includes Acqua Sant’Anna Cuneo with Poriya Khanzadeh and Tinet Prata di Pordenone with Russian opposite Kirill Klets, while Pallavolo Padova Padua competes with Iranian opposite Amir Mohammad Golzadeh.

Semeniuk shifts to opposite role

Kamil Semeniuk shifts from his regular outside hitter role to the opposite-hitter position this October. This tactical change follows his 2026 VNL campaign where he scored 17 points against the USA on 02/08/2026 and 13 points against France on 18/07/2026. The 1.94 m tall, 84 kg player also recorded 12 points in a match against Brazil on 18/07/2026 and 4 points against Ukraine on 30/07/2026 in the summer tournament. Semeniuk’s history with high-level play includes being the second-best scorer of the Champions League with 153 points. He previously played for Warta Zawiercie on loan during the 2018/2019 season. His versatility as an outside hitter is well-documented, making this opposite-hitter role a significant departure from his previous assignments. The decision to move the 30-year-old Polish attacker to the opposite position creates a messy tactical imbalance. Will this position change help or hinder the Perugia rotation? The move places immense pressure on the team to find consistent scoring from the opposite side.

New player quotas and match rules

The Italian SuperLega Credem Banca introduces strict regulatory changes for the 2026-2027 season. FIPAV implemented new match rules on September 28, including a limit of eight substitutions per set. The league also enforces a strict foreign-player quota for all twelve competing teams. Each team allows four foreigners on the court, but only one of these players can be born in 2001, 2002, or 2003. As the 2026-2027 season starts with Rana Verona hosting Cucine Lube Civitanova, the entire league enters a period of significant adjustment because of the new substitution limits and the strict rules regarding foreign player registrations. The 2026-2027 season presents a chaotic landscape for even the most seasoned coaches. You should monitor how these limits affect team depth during the 22-leg regular season. The twelve-team tournament follows a double round-robin format where teams earn points based on victories and set ratios. The top eight teams after the first round-robin qualify for the Del Monte Coppa Italia quarterfinals. At the end of the season, the bottom three or four teams enter relegation playouts in a double round-robin format. The season also includes playoffs for Italy’s fifth spot in the European Cups to determine the team for the CEV Challenge Cup. These playoffs depend on whether the regular-season winners progress beyond the quarterfinals of the championship playoffs. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season advance to the SuperLega playoffs, which consist of best-of-five series in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. The higher-placed teams host games one, three, and five in the playoffs.
