Perugia players maintain stability despite market rumors. Oleh Plotnytskyi renewed his contract with the club until 2026. This decision followed interest from Polish teams. Plotnytskyi has already won four Italian Supercups and two Club World Championships with the team. He arrived in Perugia in 2019.

FIVB championship mechanics and wildcard shifts

The 2026 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship format requires the two pool winners and the two pool runners-up to advance to the semifinals, while the remaining four teams face immediate elimination from the competition. The eight participating teams divide into two single round-robin pools of four. The winners of the two semifinals move to the gold medal match, while the losers play for bronze. In 2024, the wildcard process was unpredictable when Jastrzebski Wegiel turned down an invitation due to cost and logistical concerns. This vacancy allowed Cucine Lube Civitanova to enter the competition instead.

Italian league movements

Perugia remains the only team on full points after three rounds. They defeated Kioene Padova 3-0 with scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-21. Wilfredo Leon scored 13 points in that match. Thijs ter Horst and Plotnytskyi each contributed 11 points to the victory. You already know that Perugia dominates the Italian Superlega through their talent. The team also beat Allianz Milan’s lead in the standings earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Gas Sales BluEnergy Piacenza faces a complete roster overhaul. Captain Robertlandy Simon joins Allianz Milano for the 2026/2027 season. Other departures from Piacenza include Robbert Andringa, Luca Loreti, and Daniel Iyegbekedo. Merrick McHenry and Manuel Zlatanov join the squad. The club confirmed Gianluca Galassi, Joris Seddik, Francesco Comparoni, Paolo Porro, Dragan Travica, Alessandro Bovolenta, and Henry Leon for the upcoming season. These additions follow the departures of Robbert Andringa and the middle blocker Simon. Piacenza won the CEV Cup against Germany’s SVG Luneburg with two straight sets. Luca Loreti, a libero born in 2005, will move to Sir Susa Scai Perugia or Rana Verona. Daniel Iyegbekedo, a French middle blocker born in 2007, left the team after one season. Will the recent roster shifts in Piacenza force Perugia to accelerate their search for a new middle blocker?
